U.S. military marks end to nearly nine bloody years in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – U.S. forces formally ended their nine-year war in Iraq on Thursday with a low key flag ceremony in Baghdad, while to the north flickering violence highlighted ethnic and sectarian strains threatening the country in years ahead.

“After a lot of blood spilled by Iraqis and Americans, the mission of an Iraq that could govern and secure itself has become real,” Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said at the ceremony at Baghdad’s still heavily-fortified airport.

Almost 4,500 U.S. soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqis lost their lives in the war that began with a “Shock and Awe” campaign of missiles pounding Baghdad and descended into sectarian strife and a surge in U.S. troop numbers.

U.S. soldiers lowered the flag of American forces in Iraq and slipped it into a camouflage-colored sleeve in a brief outdoor ceremony, symbolically ending the most unpopular U.S. military venture since the Vietnam War of the 1960s and 70s.

The remaining 4,000 American troops will leave by the end of the year.

Toppled Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein is dead, executed in 2006 and the worst sectarian violence has, at least for now, passed.

Credit Rating Agency Threatens to Downgrade all Euro Zone Nations says Pan American Metals of Miami

Action by S&P threatens even healthy European economies.

MIAMI, FL – Standard & Poor’s threat to downgrade not only the credit rating of all the European nations in the euro zone, including that of France and Germany, but also that of its bailout fund, the EFSF, served to cause a minor panic; the euro slid, the dollar gained, and gold, therefore, slid also. The bad news was somewhat ameliorated by the announcement from French President Sarkozy and German Chancellor Merkel of tough measures to keep rogue nations in line and avoid other euro zone countries from accumulating debt in the future. Their proposals will be voted on at Friday’s summit meeting.

The action by S&P seems almost threatening, coming as it does, just as European leaders are entering talks to solve the crisis. The idea of countries such as Germany and Austria being downgraded by the agency seems barely credible yet all members of the common currency are necessarily affected by the staggering debt levels of some of the nations. Keeping Tabs On Your Home When Away

Written on December 5, 2011 – 5:31 pm | by Brayden Lorenzini

You may have a single family home, second home, or apartment. And no matter what your abode sitchy is, there is no place like home. Whenever I leave, I miss my family, house, and stuff.  When we go on vacation, we are always happy to go home. I hope your sitchy feels the same.

And whenever I leave there is always a discomfort that when I’m not there to guard the castle, I’m concerned that something can go wrong. Mother Nature can make a mess of things with inclement weather, Father Time wears things down and they may break while you are gone, brazen burglars ransack your stuff, tempted teens use your vacated home as a party palace and worse than it all, freaky follies occur like a busted water pipe on the second or third floor completely ruining your home.  Water is big time destructive.

I’ve remedied most of these issues by installed a surveillance system by ADT Pulse on my property. Mine is a little over the top, however it serves as a good guide.

I have 16 surveillance cameras including 8 on the inside and 8 on the outside. Each ca

Coakley-GMAC battle heats up

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley

Tensions between GMAC mortgage and Attorney General Martha Coakley escalated late Friday, with the lender and the state’s top law enforcement officer exchanging harsh statements after sparring in recent days in less-personal ways.

On Thursday, Coakley’s office sued GMAC’s parent, Ally Financial, and four other banks, alleging foreclosure abuses. Less than 24 hours later, GMAC said it would stop buying loans originated in the state. Explaining the extraordinary action, the lender said risk in Massachusetts had become unacceptable.

Then things got personal.

Late Friday afternoon, Coakley said through a spokesman: “In order to do business in Massachusetts, GMAC has to follow the law before foreclosing on homeowners. With today’s action, it appears GMAC has acknowledged it has a problem following those laws and being held accountable for doing so.”

An Ally Financial spokeswoman fired back: “The AG’s statement is incorrect.GMAC Mortgage is currently operating in full compliance with the law. Any suggestion

What’s the Buzz?
30 top traders on these stocks and more

Kazakhstan’s international energy image is now that of one of the world’s rising oil exporters, an extraordinary feat given that two decades ago its hydrocarbon output was beyond insignificant when the USSR collapsed. The vast Central Asian nation, larger than Western Europe, has now quietly passed another energy milestone.

Kazakhstan produces 33% of world’s mined uranium, followed by Canada at 18%, and Australia, with 11% of global output. Kazakhstan contains the world’s second-largest uranium reserves, estimated at 1.5 million tons. Until two years ago Kazakhstan was the world’s No. 3 uranium miner, following Australia and Canada.

Together the trio is responsible for about 62% of the world’s production of mined uranium.

According to Kazakhstan’s State Corporation for Atomic Energy, Kazatomprom, from January to September the country mined 13,957 tons of uranium. “T Read more…
